Rails generated from the staircase itself

No two staircases are the same, and the rail has to fit each one. We build tools that take 3D data of the stairs and generate the rail geometry, the model, and the drawings automatically, instead of an engineer working out every curve by hand.

A project we've shipped

What we built for stairs and rails, and what it produces.

Section drawing of a curved stair lift: a double rail on wall-fixed brackets, with the seat at the bottom and the motor housing at the top

Curved stair lift rails

The rail path is generated from 3D data of the staircase. Radius, travel, and mounting points are solved together, then the model and the section and assembly drawings are produced from the result.

From your rules to the shop floor

Your engineers apply rules like these from memory on every job. We write them down, they sign off, and the software applies them every time.

Rules like these

  • 01Rail path follows the pitch and turns of the stairs
  • 02Bend radii the rail can actually be formed to
  • 03Bracket spacing and mounting points on treads or walls
  • 04Clearance for the seat and footrest along the whole travel
  • 05Start and stop positions at each landing

What comes out

  • 013D model of the rail and carriage
  • 02Rail geometry for fabrication
  • 03Section drawings
  • 04Assembly drawings

Working out every staircase by hand?

Send us a drawing or describe the process. An engineer will reply within a day.
